You have options you can use to resolve such issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sh-ext-lemon--p-UK6ra\">QuickBooks&#8217; performance decreases as the size of the company file increases. To update the QuickBooks Database Server Manager, see\u00a0<a class=\"sh-ext-lemon--a-vLJ1M\" href=\"https:\/\/quickbookexperts.com\/Blog\/2019\/05\/10\/install-setup-update-quickbooks-database-server-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Install, Update, and Set up the QuickBooks Database Server Manager<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"sh-toc-hId-1644616898\" class=\"sh-ext-lemon--h2-2clbo\">Recommendations to resolve performance issues<\/h2>\n<div class=\"sh-ext-lemon--div-3uKWd\">\n<h3 id=\"sh-toc-hId--1104053568\" class=\"sh-ext-lemon--h3-jHu1G sh-section-g2JxR\">Reduce the size of the company file<\/h3>\n<div class=\"sh-ext-lemon--div-3uKWd sh-section-g2JxR sh-section-content-2eYId\">\n<div class=\"sh-ext-lemon--div-3uKWd\">\n<p class=\"sh-ext-lemon--p-UK6ra\">If you have a large file and performance is slower than what is needed, you can reduce the size of your company file. Be aware that all of these options are complex and require a lot of time and work. You can:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ul-1i-rI\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\" style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ul-1i-rI\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">\n<h4><strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">Run the Condense Data Utility.<\/strong>\u00a0See:\u00a0The Condense Data utility\u00a0for instructions.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ul-1i-rI\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\"><strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">Truncate your company file.<\/strong>\u00a0This capability is not built in to QuickBooks, nor does Intuit offer truncation as a separate service. You can remove transactions up to a selected date and then set up opening balances as of that date. You can truncate by (1) Sending your company file to a third party vendor OR (2) Obtaining third party data transfer and opening balances applications. For Us only, truncating your file in a previous calendar year should not affect DIY with DD payroll. If you have Assisted Payroll, consult Payroll Support before truncating your file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\"><strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">Start a new company file.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ul-1i-rI\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\"><strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">US only:<\/strong>\u00a0Starting a new company file will not affect Desktop Payroll DIY with Direct Deposit. If you have Assisted Payroll, consult Payroll Support before starting a new file.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">If you decide to start a new company file, you have two options:\n<ol class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ol-1fbQ3\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Use the Condense Company Data option to delete all transactions. This leaves you with a shell that has only your lists. (applies to US only)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Create a new file from scratch. This sounds simple, but is potentially a lot of work and will take time.\n<ol class=\"sh-ext-lemon--ol-1fbQ3\" start=\"1\">\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">In the old file, go to\u00a0<strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">File<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong class=\"sh-ext-lemon--strong-1R_yp\">New Company<\/strong>. Follow the wizard that appears.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">In the old file, export your lists. Open the files and clean them up by deleting inactive or no longer needed list entries. Excessive DB File Fragments can degrade the performance of your computer. See\u00a0<a class=\"sh-ext-lemon--a-vLJ1M\" href=\"https:\/\/quickbookexperts.com\/Blog\/2019\/11\/06\/database-db-file-fragments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Database (DB) file fragments<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Resort your Master Name List (customers, vendors, employees and other names), your Chart of Accounts and your Item List. Do this to your lists weekly. Use steps from:\u00a0<code><strong>Qbwin.log: Verify Account Balance failed<\/strong>.<\/code><\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Verify your company file weekly. See\u00a0<a class=\"sh-ext-lemon--a-vLJ1M\" href=\"https:\/\/quickbookexperts.com\/Blog\/2020\/01\/27\/resolve-data-damage-on-your-company-file\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Resolve data damage on your company file<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Transaction log files\u00a0(TLG ) keep track of changes to the file since the last backup. Large TLG files can cause performance issues. However, do not delete the TLG file. Instead, make a manual backup with full verification to reset the TLG.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">\n<h4>Since QuickBooks Desktop re-indexes the data when restoring a portable company file, create and restore a portable company file. See\u00a0<a class=\"sh-ext-lemon--a-vLJ1M\" href=\"https:\/\/quickbookexperts.com\/Blog\/2019\/11\/06\/create-or-restore-a-quickbooks-portable-company-file\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Create or restore a QuickBooks portable company file<\/a>\u00a0for details.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Do not enter zero lines on transactions. A zero line (with a zero price or quantity) adds another target to your data file and increases the size of your data file. Zero lines slow QuickBooks&#8217; performance and, if you run cash basis reports with inventory, your COGS could be incorrect.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sh-ext-lemon--li-xCOzz\">Run accrual reports instead of cash: Many transactions, i.e. more than 50,000, tend to degrade the Sybase Sequel server.
