This error can happen if you have more than one version of QuickBooks Desktop on your computer. Here\u2019s how to fix this so you can take payments again and get back to business. How to fix Error TD500<\/p>\n

Option 1: Uninstall QuickBooks 2016 and install the repair file<\/h3>\n

Choose this option only if you no longer use QuickBooks 2016. Uninstalling QuickBooks does not erase your company data file.<\/p>\n

  1. In QuickBooks, press the\u00a0F2<\/strong>\u00a0key. Make a note of which version of QuickBooks you’re in.<\/li>\n
  2. Close QuickBooks. If you use more than one version, make sure all of them are closed.<\/li>\n
  3. Select the Windows\u00a0Start<\/strong>\u00a0icon. Search for \u201cControl Panel\u201d and open\u00a0Control Panel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Select\u00a0Programs and Features<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Uninstall a Program<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. Select\u00a0QuickBooks Desktop 2016<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0QuickBooks Enterprise 16.0\u00a0<\/strong>and then\u00a0Uninstall\/Change<\/strong>. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you don\u2019t see this option, sign out of Windows and sign back in as a Windows admin.<\/li>\n
  6. After you uninstall QuickBooks 2016,
    \ndownload the repair file. Save it somewhere you can easily find it, like your desktop.<\/li>\n
  7. Double-click the file to unzip it.<\/li>\n
  8. Right-click\u00a0quickbooks_fix_tdtool.bat<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0Run as Administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  9. When it\u2019s finished, open the version of QuickBooks that had the error.<\/li>\n
  10. Process your customer\u2019s payment like you normally do.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Option 2: Update all your versions of QuickBooks and install the repair file<\/h3>\n

    1. Make a note of which version of QuickBooks you\u2019re in. You can get this by pressing the\u00a0F2<\/strong>\u00a0key.<\/li>\n
    2. Close QuickBooks. If you use more than one version, make sure you close all of them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Figure out which versions of QuickBooks you have<\/h4>\n

      1. Select the Windows\u00a0Start<\/strong>\u00a0icon.<\/li>\n
      2. Scroll down to the letter Q.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the down arrow for the QuickBooks folder. You’ll see all the versions of QuickBooks you have installed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Install QuickBooks updates and repair file<\/h4>\n

        1. One by one, open each version and\u00a0make sure QuickBooks is up to date. The fastest way to do this is to select\u00a0Help > Update QuickBooks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        2. After you make sure QuickBooks is up to date,
          \ndownload the repair file. Save it somewhere you can easily find it, like your desktop.<\/li>\n
        3. Double-click the file to unzip it.<\/li>\n
        4. Right-click\u00a0quickbooks_fix_tdtool.bat<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0Run as Administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
